Cost Accountant

Summary

Assist the controller in the management of the day-to-day accounting functions by performing all related Cost Accounting functions using Generally Accepted Accounting Practices.  The cost accountant position is accountable for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities.  The cost accountant must also construct and monitor those cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management.

  1. Supports monthly close process.
  2. Report on periodic variances and their causes, focusing in particular on spending variances.
  3. Manages standard cost system.
  4. Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies.
  5. Ensure operations are supported with accurate and timely financial and operating information.
  6. Prepare actual vs. plan (budget) analysis. Prepare various financial analysis related to manufacturing costs, inventory, and expense information.
  7. Reconciles work in progress (WIP) and cost of sales (COS) monthly.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and must work 40 hours each week.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting or finance.
  2. 5+ years of accounting experience; cost accounting preferred
  3. Applicant must possess excellent analysis skills and the ability to collaborate with a multi-department team.
  4. In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  5. Extremely strong Excel skills

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Knowledge of average and standard costing.
  2. Government contracting experience preferred.
  3. Experience with ERP software, Epicor preferred.
  4. Strong Microsoft Access and Project skills.
